Unlocking Global Potential and Collaboration for MSPO

Embracing Sustainability with MSPO:

In a world increasingly focused on sustainability, Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) shines as a symbol of responsible production for palm oil products. Malaysia, a key player in the global palm oil industry, is strategically positioned to harness the burgeoning demand for sustainable products through its comprehensive MSPO certification scheme.

As awareness of the environmental and social impacts from conventional production grows, the global market for sustainable palm oil products expands, fueled by international ratification efforts and the escalating demand for goods with transparent and ethical supply chains.

With MSPO certification, Malaysian producers are uniquely poised to lead the charge in sustainable palm oil production on a global scale, providing consumers with the assurance of sustainability and meeting the rising demand for transparency in supply chains.

Setting Standards for Sustainability:

Administered by the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO), formerly known as the Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council (MPOCC), MSPO certification has become synonymous with environmental responsibility and ethical practices. The standards embed environmental conservation, social welfare, and ethical labor practices.

MSPO ensures the inclusivity and practicality of certification for all Malaysian palm oil players, including smallholders. This commitment aligns with national and international agendas, such as the pledge to preserve forest cover and compliance with regulations such as the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the Forced Labour Regulation (FLR).

MSPO's inclusivity extends beyond local borders, meeting international sustainability requirements across the entire palm oil supply chain, from plantation to retail, resonating with environmentally conscious consumers and businesses globally.

Global Recognition and Collaboration:

MSPO's impact extends beyond Malaysia, garnering support both locally and internationally. Notably, it was designated as one of the sourcing codes for sustainable palm oil procurement at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Grand Oils and Fats (Dongguan) Co. Ltd. in China has become the first company outside Malaysia to achieve MSPO certification through collaboration with MPOCC in 2022.

MSPO is also endorsed by Green Gold Label (GGL), ensuring the seamless supply of certified materials to Japanese markets under the updated GGL 1c scheme, aligning with the approval by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

On the European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation (EUDR), the EU will support the nationally mandated sustainable production of Malaysian palm oil in compliance with EUDR requirements, as affirmed in a joint press statement by the EU and Malaysia.

These support and partnerships underscore MSPO's global reach and the potential for collaboration to further advance sustainable palm oil production worldwide.

Inviting Collaboration for a Sustainable Future:

MSPO recognises the importance of collaboration in nurturing sustainable palm oil production for the future. Through engagement with governmental bodies, NGOs, civil society, suppliers, academic institutions, and consumer groups, MSPO aims to foster a collaborative ecosystem that promotes sustainability across the palm oil industry.

International stakeholders are invited to collaborate with MSPO in this endeavor, offering mutual benefits and opportunities for partnership.
