Public Comment on Draft 2 Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Guidelines

Public Comment on Draft 2 Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Guidelines Approach for the MSPO Revised Standards

The Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Certification Scheme is a scheme that enables the certification of oil palm plantations, smallholdings, dealers, and palm oil processing facilities under the MSPO Standards. The MSPO Certification Scheme (MS 2530:2013) was first implemented on a voluntary basis in 2015 and subsequently made mandatory in December 2019. The first edition of the MSPO Standards has since undergone a systemic review and revision by the standards owner, the Department of Standards Malaysia, together with the Malaysian Palm Oil Certification Council (MPOCC) as joint secretariat.

During the revision process, MPOCC as the scheme owner of the MSPO Certification Scheme was requested to develop a Social Impact Assessment (SIA) Guidelines for the upcoming Revised MSPO Standards. The aim of the SIA guidelines was to identify the SIA requirements for different actors to comply with the parts of the MSPO Standard. The Draft 1 of the SIA Guidelines was developed and subsequently reviewed by the SIA Committee which consisted of 5 experts from the palm oil industry. Their inputs were then incorporated into Draft 2 of the SIA guidelines which will be circulated for public comment.

Therefore, MPOCC would like to announce that Public Comment on the draft 2 of the SIA Guidelines will officially commence from 8 November 2021 to 7 December 2021. During this period, we welcome all parties to share your views and expertise on the Draft 2 of the SIA Guidelines which is available for download. Please provide your valuable inputs and expertise by using the public comment form and send it directly via email to standards_review@mpocc.org.my with the title “Public Comment on the Draft 2 of the SIA Guidelines”.

You are also highly encouraged to share and promote this draft guideline by forwarding this announcement to all relevant (direct and/or indirect) stakeholders.

If you have any questions about the public comment process or the SIA Guidelines, please contact us:
