The Usage of The MSPO Logo

Written by Ainaa Rahim, MPOCC

The MSPO logo is the certification mark related to the MSPO certification scheme. It can be a symbol of the connection with MSPO, in terms of promoting, supporting, collaborating, and acting as an indicator where the organisation is certified with MSPO certification.

Besides specifying the promotion and support on the MSPO certification, The MSPO Logo conveys information to consumers that the palm oil and palm oil-based products used in the designated products come from sustainably managed oil palm planted areas, as defined within the MSPO Certification Scheme.

There are four main groups of Logo Users, Group A (Scheme Owner), Group B (Oil Palm Management Certificate Holders), Group C (Supply Chain Certificate Holders), and Group D (Certification Bodies and Other Organisations). The MSPO logo and claims can be used in two different ways, based on the MSPO logo user groups:

On-Product Usage

On-product use is the type of MSPO logo usage on the product label. For example, it can be placed on the PET bottle, plastic packaging, boxes, or drums of the MSPO-certified products.

For the MSPO logo on-product, it must have the information of the MSPO logo license number at the top, and the SCCS model at the bottom of the logo. The supply chain model is either the option of Segregation (SG) or Mass Balance (MB), based on their manufacture scope of certification and the content of the MSPO-certified material in the product.

For MSPO Segregation (SG) logo, it is indicated that the products contained 100% of MSPO certified material used, while for MSPO Mass Balance (MB) logo, it shows that the products contained a minimum of 70% of MSPO certified material from the total of palm oil material used.

MSPO logo on-product exclusively for the MSPO Logo User Group C - Supply Chain Certificate Holders used only. It will convey the information to the public that the products are contained MSPO certified materials which are manufactured from the MSPO certified processing facilities, and the palm oil materials used originated from the sustainable oil palm planted areas.

Off-Product Usage

In general, off-product usage is the use of the MSPO logo other than the usage on the product label.

The MSPO off-product logo promotes the uptake of MSPO or increases general awareness about the MPOCC’s goals and purposes towards the achievement of sustainable oil palm management. MSPO logo off-products also indicate that the organisation is certified with MSPO and/or is supporting the MSPO certification movement.

Compared to the on-product usage, there is no minimum requirement to use the MSPO logo off-product. The MSPO logo off-product can be widely used in promotional materials, traceability documentation (invoice, delivery order, bill of landing), general documentation (headline of formal letter, product brochure, annual report), signage, website, or even on the company merchandise (company T-shirt, mug, cap).

MSPO logo off-product should contain the MSPO logo license number at the bottom of the logo to convey the information of the Logo User, especially the certification information to the public. MSPO logo off-product can be used widely for all MSPO logo user groups.
