Promoting Fair and Ethical Recruitment and Employment of Migrant Workers

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), in partnership with the Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) Impact Alliance, will be organising a series of one-day, in-person capacity-building workshops across Malaysia on Promoting Fair and Ethical Recruitment and Employment of Migrant Workers.

Sponsored by Bunge, Nestlé, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad and Intercontinental Specialty Fats Sdn. Bhd., the workshops aim to strengthen participants’ understanding of fair and ethical recruitment and employment practices for migrant workers, relevant international standards and Malaysian frameworks, as well as the integration of human rights due diligence into recruitment, employment and labour management systems.

The workshops are open to personnel from plantation companies, mills, dealers, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), smallholder organisations and other relevant industry bodies involved in:

  • Human resources and recruitment
  • Sustainability and ESG
  • Social compliance
  • Procurement and responsible sourcing
  • Operations
  • Worker welfare

Indicative Training Modules

The workshops are expected to cover the following areas:

  2. Understanding Labour-Related Requirements under the MSPO Certification Standard
  3. Fair and Ethical Recruitment and Deployment of Migrant Workers
  4. Employment and Life Abroad of Migrant Workers
  5. Labour Migration Management System
